About Assurance

Our goal is to provide high quality image interpretation and reporting using a system and process that are easy for dental providers and their staff.

Assurance Dental Imaging started with a few questions

My husband was recently diagnosed with cancer of the maxillary sinus. He underwent cone beam CT one year prior in his dentist’s office for dental implant planning. Was this visible on that scan? If it had been seen and reported, could his prognosis have been different?

Could I please have a copy of the written report for my daughter’s facial CT that was performed at the Orthodontist’s office? She has symptoms of nasal congestion and we would like to see if anything was seen that could explain those symptoms.

Why aren’t most images performed in dental practices formally read and reported the same way they are in non-dental medicine?

The answers were concerning for us and led to several of our own follow-up questions.

Even if a dental practitioner chooses not to have their patient’s images formally read, shouldn’t patients still be offered the option? If an adverse finding were missed, dentists may struggle to defend why the option was not provided.
Do most dental providers realize that they are professionally and legally responsible for ALL of the anatomy and pathology that is seen on the images they acquire in their offices?

Do most dental providers realize that with increases in image utilization, and technology making it much easier to image larger fields of view, the statistical likelihood of clinically significant unexpected image findings being present will increase in parallel?

We believe that the field of dental imaging has several needs for improved patient care and dentist protection.

We created Assurance Dental Imaging in order to meet those needs. Our goal is to provide high quality image interpretation and reporting using a system and process that are easy for dental providers and their staff.  When a finding of possible clinical significance is present our goal is efficient and clear communication with both the dental provider, the patient, and their relevant medical care team.

What makes us different

There are other providers offering image interpretation for dental practitioners.  Why choose Assurance Dental Imaging as your partner?

Better Protection.  Assurance is unique because our providers are MD or DO trained medical radiologists.  One of the major benefits of this is added medical legal protection.  dentists with radiology training do not require individual state licensure in order to practice.  They are able to read images from anywhere in the US with a single license because the services they provide are classified as “consultation services”.  Our radiology providers carry an individual state medical license and malpractice insurance in each state from which they practice.  This means that once the images are interpreted by our providers, the findings on those exams are 100% their responsibility.

Better Communication.  As medical providers, when clinically significant findings are made, we are comfortable with and willing to take responsibility for the care of the patient in order to connect them with the next correct provider to manage their care.  We contact the ordering dental practice so that they are informed but we also contact (when the patient has established care) the patient’s primary care doctor and the patient directly to discuss the findings and to direct the next step in care.

Better Perspectives.  Our board of directors are Medical School (MD) and Dental School (DDS) trained.  These different perspectives have allowed us to provide a medical level of expertise and protection while still meeting the specific imaging needs of dentists.  It also has helped us fine tune our process of image and report transmission along with patient and provider communications so that they are smooth and easy to use for our dental practice clients.
